Remember to keep an eye out for website, video, and article sections as they are updated frequently. I try to add different and cool stuff that I find cool and interesting.

Liquid Death, by Calvin Sun - CF Invictus

The above article is on the sweetener, agave nectar. Turns out, should've known, that it is deleterious to our health. The way it is processed is patented and upon doing more reading, I noticed that it's fructose content is super high. Fructose, also found in fruit but in its natural state, is a low GI food that can cause digestive problems and in some cases metabolic syndrome. Do your own research and see what you can find. Let us know.

Nothing is safe anymore. It's us against them. They will do anything to generate the almighty dollar. Even if it means giving it the mighty title of GRAS (generally recognized as safe). What does that even mean?

Stay away from artificial sweeteners. Loot into real, raw, cream and butter. Real and raw milk, real beef, chickens, fish, etc. fed their natural diets. I think it's funny how some people are always waiting to ask, "Well, if we had to eat some of this stuff, which is the lesser of the evils?" Just don't eat it and don't give it to your kids. It's like putting a lit black cat in their mouths. It might be a dud, it might not do anything too bad, or it might blow their f'ing heads off.

I know that we can't always get away from everything because it is everywhere. They put it in everything. They hide it from us. Aspartame, Sucralose, Agave Nectar, their version of stevia, saccharin, and any other chemical bond they can put together to produce a sweetness. If you absolutely need a sweetener, look for raw, un-processed honey. Don't be afraid of the calories.

The main reason we all think of using artificial sweeteners is because we are afraid of calories. It's the same reason we drink diet sodas. Everyone has accepted the notion calories as being the end all, be all to gaining and losing weight. Quit worrying about all the calories, it's whats killing us. Focus your attention to whole foods, whether fed their natural diets or not, you just have to start with whole foods and once you get that down, you can then turn your focus to animal products that were fed their natural diets and produce that was grown organically. Again, if you aren't eating whole foods for 85% of the time, then quit worrying about organic products and grass-fed beef at the moment and just start thinking of ridding yourself of the bad habits first.

You won't always have access to the highest of quality meats and produce, but you will have access to meats and produce at all times. Make the most of it but continue to progress. All the while, taking in copious amounts of fish oil until the pasture raised animal products and organic fruits and vegetables become readily available at your local grocer, if ever.

If you truly can't get your diet in check. If you really are that incapable, I will personally spend a day with you if I have to. It won't be fun but at least you will be in the know of what you are doing and what you should be doing. I would even be happy to have access to your house, while you are there of course, and come over at any time, announced or unannounced, and look through your cupboards and refrigerator for any villains.

I want to help you in any way possible. I am very selfish. I am only helping you because I don't want to have to pay for high insurance because you can't figure out how to stop the madness. Well, maybe not that selfish, I am actually very satisfied when you talk about your successes and where you have improved. It really is very inspiring and makes me happy, but still.

So a question was posed on why Omega-3 fatty acids? I have explained here previously that there needs to be a balance of Omega-3 FA to Omega-6 FA at pretty much a 1 to 1 ratio but that because of many factors, it is more like a 15, 20, or sometimes more to 1 ratio. This is not good.

This imbalance stems from many variables including processing of foods, over consumption of grains, legumes, and this processed food, animals that we eat that are fed high grain diets and pumped full of hormones to cause rapid growth, and many other reasons I'm sure of. Lots of studies show correlation between fish oil and anti-inflammation as well as a lot of people out there, including myself, have experienced the benefits of Omega-3 supplementation.

The big picture is inflammation. Everything under the sun that causes sickness is considered to induce inflammation within the body. Sometimes this is auto-immune and sometimes it is not. Auto-immune being when the body sees inflammation but does not recognize its parts as being self so it attacks itself. Other types of inflammation include shoulder impingement, colds and flues, stomach aches, Parkinson's, etc.

All these inflammations of the body can be treated and prevented with diet and fish oil. This is why fish oil is so important. It has a super high anti-inflammatory effect. Google fish oil and any disease and you'll see. It is this important.

As your diet changes to that of one that is abundant in grass-fed beef and chicken, wild-caught fish, organically grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices, with most fat coming in the form of avocado, coconut oil, and olive oil you may then decrease the amount taken as your Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio will be much more favorable.

Sources high in Omega-6 FA are vegetable oils such as safflower, sunflower, and soybean, walnuts, sunflower seeds, game meat, acai berry, avocado, and other oils as well. Some sources such as game meat contain higher levels of Omega-6 but also contain Omega-3 as they eat a natural diet whereas grain (corn) fed beef/animals start to lose the Omega-3 presence in place of higher levels of Omega-6.

If there are any specific questions pertaining to Omega-3 FA, please feel free to ask. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the great info on agave nectar. That's scary. Damn. That habit is stopped now.

I only used 1/2 tsp. to slightly sweeten plain Greek yogurt. I'm grateful that I don't use sweeteners for anything like my coffee or tea, never drink diet sodas, or eat anything with pink, blue or yellow sweeteners, so I can easily stop this habit immediately, and will.

Great blog. I'm glad for the info re: Omega-3 FA and Omega-6 FA. I will fix my ratio of those FAs and get the liquid fish oil from the website mentioned with the great price.

Hey guys I have been in contact with Thistles and Clover, from Jen and Jeff Shannon. She gave me some prices on an entire cow and the break down. I am going to have her email it to me. For the time being she does deliver to Village Point every other Saturday. All of her cows are grass fed, and chicken are free range. Go to www.thistlesandclover.com for more info on the farm!

Anybody finding themselves way more sensative to the poor eating habits around them?

Went to the Boat, Sports, and Travel show this weekend. Grabbed a bottled water and sat down to rest our tired feet. The guy sitting next to us was gobbling a huge basket of garlic cheese fries and a nasty-ass cheeseburger.....he then topped it off with a 5 scooper of ice-cream. By the looks of the dude, this wasnt' his first meal of this type. ;-)

BTW, we were at the Circus this weekend as well. When are these venues going to start offering some healthy choices? The combination of availability/convenience of junk and ignorance to what it does to us is a major american problem.

Thanks, Ricky, for bringing all this great information!

here is some info I got on meat:

A typical WHOLE BEEF includes:
Steaks: 12 filet mignons, 28 NY Strips, 24 Ribeyes, 20 Sirloins, 16 Round steaks
Roasts: 10 chuck roasts, 6 sirloin tip roasts, 4 rump roasts (each roast is around 3 pounds)
Trimmings: 16 pounds stew meat, 160-200 pounds ground beef, 20 pounds soup bones

A typical HALF BEEF includes:
Steaks: 6 filet mignons, 14 NY Strips, 12 Ribeyes, 10 Sirloins, 8 Round steaks
Roasts: 5 chuck roasts, 6 sirloin tip roasts, 2 rump roasts (each roast is around 3 pounds)
Trimmings: 8 pounds stew meat, 80-100 pounds ground beef, 10 pounds soup bones

Our bulk beef prices at Thistles & Clover are based on the animal's hanging weight. This means that you will "get what you pay for." We do this, rather than charge a fixed amount, because of the variation in weight among the animals. The price for a WHOLE BEEF is $2.90 per pound hanging weight. If hanging weight is 650 pounds, your charge from us is $1885. (Keep in mind we are offering $100 off of WHOLE BEEF orders, which would bring the total in this example down to $1785).

Your processing charges will be a separate fee. We will work with you to find out exactly how you would like your beef processed - boneless cuts versus bone-in, thickness of steaks, size of roasts, # steaks per package, any whether you would like any of your trimmings made into specialty products such as jerky. We will offer you tips to try and keep your processing fees as low as possible. Processing a WHOLE BEEF rather than a HALF earns you a reduction in your per pound processing fees. Processing might run around $400 for a WHOLE beef.
